I just watched a video on Knewton's Adaptive learning system. As a mother of two children with different learning styles, I am attracted to this concept. I worry about child #2 if she is not challenged enough especially since our district doesn't offer a gifted program. I worry about child #1 who shows no interest in school work but boy does he like video games. Knewton distinguishes itself based on "personalized" learning but how is social learning accommodated? This week's #lak12 readings have also prompted me to ask who is using analytics on my campus? What is the maturity capability? This week marks the start of my participation with the open, online Learning Analytics and Knowledge 2012 course. Since I work in IT at the University of Buffalo and I am interested in student success, learning analytics may be an area that that bridges both my interests. I am an online course neophyte.
